There is a significant increase in the number of factories that are going green in terms of production as evidenced by the knitting industry. India, Bangladesh and Vietnam manufacturers are increasingly getting certification like OEKO-TEX and GOTS in order to fulfill the needs of international buyers. According to industry officials, the move is informed by the fact that leading brands are increasing sustainability rules within their supply chains. Mills that have modernised facilities claim to have better buyer confidence and increased export enquiries. Analysts reckon that eco-certification would emerge as a standard in the near future as opposed to a competitive edge.
